Kanoka Assam will change your notions about Assam black teas. Unlike most Assam teas which are produced via machine processing, Kanoka Assam is completely handpicked and hand-crafted. The result is a full-bodied, flavorful, and complex brew. The leaves are lush and fragrant, with malty, woody flavors softened by sweet honey and fig notes. Harvested in May, this batch is considered a First Flush, and has many of the bright, striking flavors characteristic of this time. Compared to previous years, this tea has a slightly more fruity, fig character. It is best drunk without milk, to appreciate the nuances in the complex profile, and can be re-steeped multiple times as the leaves fully unfold their flavors. The tea is grown with meticulous, all-natural techniques. Kanoka Tea Estate uses ancient Indian vriksayurveda agriculture, incorporating the holy cow and local plant medicines, to grow their teas.
The Grower
Kanoka Tea Estate is a small, family estate. They are a member of Assamica Agro, a cooperative in Assam that is promoting sustainable, quality tea production in the region. The cooperative's members practice all-natural cultivation with the use of local vermicomposting and cow-based fertilizer, and are continuously developing ways to improve their agricultural techniques.
